• Thought I'd share with you my Aerogarden peppers. It looks like only the red peppers are blooming; the other surviving pepper plant isn't bearing any fruit, possibly because the red peppers are getting so big and sucking up all the water and nutrients. I find that the plant is sucking up water so fast that it's bone dry even before the "Add Water" light lights up, and the plant starts to wilt. Which is scary because I'm never sure if the plant has wilted beyond the point where it can come back.I... more »
  • The weather was beautiful today in the New York area. After a winter of three-feet snowstorms, it's nice to see the sun and 65-degree temperatures again. Well, since Spring is in the air, I figured it'd be a nice day to satisfy my gardening urges by planting another batch of Aerogarden herbs. I figure, let's go back to the basics...I had fun experimenting with the likes of heirloom tomatoes and cherry tomatoes and lettuce, but at the end of the day, nothing beats the Aerogarden for herbs. I went... more »

Helen asks… What’s wrong with these tomatoes? My friend planted some tomatoes for the first time this year, but went I went by to see her today, they weren’t looking all that great. The leaves at the bases have turned yellow, and the plants look thin and shriveled. I’m fairly certain they’re dropping all their blossoms, as well, though I didn’t have the heart to tell her. She’s not a gardener, and I’m trying to figure out what’s wrong. ... more »

Laura asks… I am growing tomato plants in 5 gallon buckets in bagged garden soil. Can I use this same soil again next year? Glenn answers: Interesting responses from a lot of experienced people. I’m thinking that if you dumped the soil onto a tarp, mixed in a bag of decomposted manure for each 5 gallon pot, it would be all good. If you did this when your plants are done, then the manure would have 4-5 months to decompose and integrate into the soil. I agree with the lady re... more »

Donna asks… vegetable garden plans? does anyone know of a website that offers detailed plans for a vegetable garden???? Glenn answers: I was looking for the same thing! Goggle companion planting and you will find good info on which plants to plant next to each other, but I never could find a good plan to use.
